Meiji Chocolate Factory

We entertain you with the story of cocoa, including the extraordinary transformation of the cocoa fruit into what we know and love as chocolate!

Chocolate is the favorite topic of conversation of many people, but not many of us know about its origins. The factory tour at the Meiji Seika (Shanghai) Company in Songjiang district ably fulfills this need.

Visitors can watch a video here that describes all types of chocolate. Maddeningly, the tour is permeated by the irresistible aroma of the brown stuff, making it difficult to concentrate at times. But if you can pay attention for long enough, you will learn of a chocolate-making history that stretches all the way back to Columbus discovering America. At some late point in this narrative Meiji chocolate enters the picture.  Visitors are whisked along a 160-meter-long walkway, which runs through the whole chocolate production process. Here you can see how ordinary cocoa powder is transformed into the silver-foiled bars we know and love.

On Meiji Chocolate factory tours, we entertain you with the story of cocoa, including the extraordinary transformation of the cocoa fruit into what we know and love as chocolate! We also see the process of making Chocolate. Best of all, you’ll get to try Meiji's amazing products!
