Been there, seen that, done it all in Shanghai? Discover another side of the city with us to visit some of the most interesting offbeat areas.

In this tour, we will visit the former British Police Station in the 1920s, now the prison cells and offices shelter low-income residents living in a Roman Coliseum-looking square-shaped compound, 5 story buildings surround a spacious courtyard in the middle which house over 250 families, the buzzing structure was reputedly the inspiration and a real life version of the "Pig Cage Village" in Stephen Chow's film "Kung Fu Hustle".

Then go the biggest Slaughterhouse in 1930s. It’s hard to believe this gorgeous Escheresque building is located in the historic Hongkou District, this eerie Gotham-deco architectural achievement in concrete, glass, and steel, was originally intended for herding cows to their doom.

In the end of the tour, we will come to the former Astor House Hotel which the first western hotel in China but now part of the building has been secretly changed to a huge compound with local Chinese living in old hotel rooms as their day to day family home, and visit the General Post Office which was built in 1924 with an interesting mix of European styles of architecture, get into the 1200 square meter main trading hall, which was known as the "First Hall of the Far East". The foundations of the building used an ingenious system of tanks, which was filled and drained by water from neighbouring Suzhou Creek as water levels rose and fell.
